How Purple Engineering started
Purple Engineering started in 2013, founded by Alex Ocean (MIEAust) in Perth, Western Australia. At the time, our Western Australian construction projects in the Oil & Gas industry were facing huge delays, mainly due to a shortage of reliable equipment available in Australia. A limited number of suppliers, none with stock on the ground here, was pushing most order lead-times out to 8–14 weeks.
The mission was simple: keep essential equipment from reliable suppliers here in Australia, so we can help our clients meet their deadlines. It was a costly exercise. It meant spending significant capital on inventory and relying on clients to trust us with their projects. For the first couple of years it was an uphill battle to convince businesses to work with us; most companies didn't want to change their existing suppliers.
Eventually, when they needed our pipeline equipment urgently and we had it in stock, they purchased once… twice… and now we're their preferred supplier. As you can tell from the tone of our message, we're not a huge, formal organisation where nobody is responsible for anything. Purple Engineering is a small, friendly business just trying to help in every way we can.

Alex is a Civil Engineer, and when he started the business he didn't know exactly which product would be the one clients wanted most. Purple was also his favourite colour, so he named it Purple Engineering.
