Overview

Fire protection is a life-safety service, so the valves that isolate, control and protect a system carry an unusually high burden of reliability. A sprinkler, hydrant or standpipe network can sit dormant for years and then be called on to deliver full flow within seconds, which means every isolation and check valve in the line has to be specified, listed and supervised accordingly.

Purple Valves supplies the gate, butterfly and check valves that form the backbone of fire water systems across commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects. Our range is selected for tight shut-off, low friction loss and the third-party listings that approving authorities and insurers require.

Common Challenges in Fire Protection

Guaranteed performance after long dormancy

Fire systems are rarely operated yet must work on the first attempt. Valves need resilient seats, corrosion-resistant internals and supervisory provisions so they remain fully operable for the life of the system.

Listed and supervised control valves

Standards such as NFPA 13 require every control valve to be listed and electrically supervised so a closed valve is detected immediately. Component selection has to satisfy both the standard and the local authority having jurisdiction.

Water hammer and friction loss

Rapid closure can generate damaging pressure surges, while excessive friction loss starves sprinkler heads. The right balance of valve type, seat design and actuation protects the pipework and the hydraulic design.
