Spectacle Flange

A figure-eight spectacle flange combining a solid blank and an open spacer so a line can be positively blinded or opened by rotating the plate.

Overview

The spectacle flange, or figure-eight blind, joins a solid blank and an open ring with a connecting web so a single component can either block or pass flow depending on which half is installed between the mating flanges. Dimensioned to ASME B16.48 and matched to ASME B16.5 flange ratings, it gives operators an unambiguous, permanently installed means of positive isolation for maintenance, testing and safe entry. The visible orientation of the spectacle makes the open or closed status easy to confirm at a glance, which is why it is widely specified for safety-critical isolation points.
